ANNOUNCING: 2nd Annual Neighborhood Garden Tour



   Pilsen Alianza Verde Host 2nd Annual Tour Paseo de Jardines, 
 Pilsen Neighborhood Garden Tour Presentations and Workshops, All Events Free to the Public.

WHEN: Saturday, August 6, 2011, 10am-3pm

WHAT: Please join us for Pilsen's 2nd Annual Neighborhood Garden Tour!  Over 40 gardens are participating highlighting many different spaces and styles of gardening including community gardens, edible rooftop gardens, butterfly gardens, backyard gardens, porch gardens, and even sidewalk gardens. Family activities, educational presentations and demonstrations will be held along the entire route. 
Visitors can stop by the neighborhood’s community gardens and learn how to make garden planters from up-cycled materials, help make a greenhouse from plastic bottles, learn how to set up a compost bin in your backyard or a worm bin in your kitchen, or hear a presentation on monarch butterflies. You can pick up a map detailing a suggested routes and list of activities along the way!

WHERE: The tour will encompass Pilsen’s gardening community between 18th St and Cermak from Sangamon to Leavitt.  Tour officially begins at El Zocalo Plaza at 1818 South Paulina and 18th Street where there will be informational handouts and ongoing activities.  We encourage guests to walk or bike the route and bicycle rentals will be available for a small donation at El Zocalo Plaza 1818 South Paulina.  
Pilsen can also be reached via CTA Pink Line (18th or Damen stops) and CTA Buses #8 (Halsted,) #9 (Ashland,) #18 (18th Street,) #21 (Cermak).

WHO: This event is hosted by the Pilsen Alianza Verde, a coalition of the community gardens: Jardin Mariposa, Roots & Rays Community Garden, St. Ann's Plaza & the BLAGI Project, Growing Station, Eco Rooftop Garden, and the Xochiquetzal Peace Garden. With generous support from the Pilsen Planning Committee’s Community Image Task Force, The Resurrection Project, Working Bikes Chicago, Elev8, Openlands, Orozco School, Whittier School and the Pilsen Community Market.
